Our 16 year old son LOVES cooking so I decided to use a recipe created by him. He had to cook these Korean rice cakes, tteokbokki outside (and just before my cooking class) because he woke up late so he was not allowed to use my clean kitchen! For the vegan option, skip fish cakes and use vegan cheese.
Tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes) Recipe
Ingredients (serves 2)
350g tteokbokki – you can find these rice cakes in Korean grocers or big Asian grocers. Soak them in hot water for 10 minutes and drain
100g fish cakes – thin sliced (optional)
*For tteokbokki sauce
1 satchel SAORI 100% Natural Japanese Dashi Broth – open satchel and use the powder
3 tbsp gochujang (Korean chilli paste)
2 tbsp SAORI Goma (sesame ) Sauce
1 knob garlic – minced
500ml boiling water
1tbsp brown sugar (optional)
Garnish – grated mozzarella cheese or your choice of cheese
【Tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes) Recipe 】
1: add SAORI 100% Natural Japanese Dashi Broth satchel, gochujang, SAORI Goma Sauce, garlic, fish cake and boiling water in a pan with the tteokbokki and mix well.
2: cook over high heat for 3-5 minutes till tteokbokki is cooked then simmer for a further few minutes until the sauce thickens. Stop the heat. Taste and add brown sugar if desired
3: garnish with cheese
He cooked this dish outside with his friend using only a frying pan and a portable gas cooker…
…so I could keep my kitchen clean for my cooking class ☆
